On Wednesday, 10th October 2012, a Music Workshop organised by Dr Mary Stakelum who is a Lecturer in Music Education/Associate Director of Postgraduate Research Studies at the Institute of Education, University of Reading and a Trustee/Director of Decibels, took place in the Music Department (Studio 1) and was delivered by Jonathan Westrup who is National Manager, Learning & Participation of Drake Music and performer with Carnivores of the Rockies, to a number of Berkshire Teachers of Music.
Jonathan was able to demonstrate in a highly enthusiastic manner to the teachers, including Ken Carter who is the founder of Decibels, how one can break down disabling barriers to music through innovative approaches to learning, teaching and making music. His focus was on nurturing creativity through exploring music and technology in imaginative ways. He was able to put quality music-making at the heart of everything Drake Music does and connect in an inclusive way children with disabilities and those without disabilities locally, nationally and internationally. Decibels was very pleased to sponsor this workshop and have plans to work in partnership with Drake Music on a “Music through Technology” project in the very near future.” See - http://www.drakemusic.org/
